Why do leafs fans boo alfredsson

This indifference toward Ottawa merely feeds our inferiority complex as we aim for equal billing with Toronto. But if Ottawa is really so insignificant, then why all the fuss over Alfredsson? Daniel Alfredsson is so thoroughly hated in Toronto that they have been known to flash his image on the Jumbotron at Toronto Raptors games when a visiting player steps to the free throw line.

Just the sight of the Senators captain is enough to whip even a Toronto basketball crowd into a frenzy. When the Senators captain retires, it will be an emotional day for the city of Ottawa. No athlete in the modern era has captivated this city — both on and off the ice — like Alfredsson. But it will also be a sad day in Toronto when he no longer suits up in the visiting colours inside the Air Canada Centre. Perhaps even the idea of Alfredsson donning a Maple Leafs jersey would make some diehard Leafs fans nauseated to no end.

Before we grab our pitchforks and torches, let's just take a few deep cleansing breaths and consider what that could actually mean for the Leafs and their devoted fans alike. Daniel Alfredsson is a two-time goal scorer and has 45 or more assists in nine seasons. He's turning 40 on Dec. No doubt, he may only have one or two more seasons left in him, but he is still one of the most skilled players in the game with the stats to back it up.

The Ottawa Senators are a rebuilding team that were not projected to compete for a playoff spot this year. Their potential for success is still yet to be determined but even if they do squeak into the postseason, the likelihood of them making a legitimate run at the Stanley Cup anytime soon is slim to nil—certainly not before Daniel Alfredsson retires.

Moving Alfredsson out of Ottawa would allow him the potential to cap off a very successful career with the shot at the Cup. I set the bar really high for the way the game should be played and how you handle yourself in different situations.

I stepped over the threshold a few times and that was one of them. Well, that seems like a good segue into another situation Alfie may admit to stepping over the line. As discussed above, the Battle of Ontario was a raging inferno from until the lockout year of With guys like Chris Neil and Darcy Tucker on either side things were bound to get out of hand, and sometimes those two were the targeted by the opposition.

Entering the second round of the playoffs, the rivalry reached a fever pitch, and the first four games of the series had done nothing to quell the animosity.

Game 2 was a triple overtime nail-biter that the Leafs squeaked out of. Games 3 and 4 were one-goal affairs the teams split, setting up a tie-breaking Game 5 back in Toronto. Tied with under three minutes to go in the game, Ottawa was pressing for a game winner.
