What happens if you lose shadowmere in skyrim

I looked it up online and every response I got was that she would turn up randomly. Does anyone know what might be the solution? If the horse died I've heard that it takes 30 in game days for it to respawn. If you don't think it died, perhaps you can try visiting all the hold stables.
